Description from the seller
MiLo – “Offset Trace”
A work by Amsterdam-based artist MiLo (1976).
This abstract painting is built around a single stepped line that moves across the surface in measured shifts. The line suggests passage, interruption, and continuation, as if tracing a route that changes direction without losing intent.
The surrounding surface remains deliberately open. Soft layers of white and grey are applied unevenly, allowing the brushwork and underlying texture to remain visible. Rather than enclosing the form, the space around it absorbs and diffuses it.
The composition balances structure and erosion. The linear element feels architectural, yet its edges are softened, partially worn away by the surrounding paint. What remains is not a fixed structure, but a trace — a record of movement rather than a plan.
The painting can be hung in any orientation, subtly altering the reading of direction and progression.
It will be rolled up and shipped in a sturdy tube or box, without frame, and includes a signed certificate of authenticity.
Detail images are slightly dark.

About the artist
MiLo (1976) is an Amsterdam-based artist with a background in photography and art studies. Over the years he has sold more than 800 original works, now residing in private collections, hotels, restaurants, and offices across Europe, the United States, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
His practice spans from early Pollock-inspired action paintings to precise geometric compositions, and to the layered, scratched surfaces he often explores today.
In his current work, MiLo investigates the tension between construction and erosion, layering and scraping the painted surface until traces emerge. These may recall urban structures, geological strata, or remnants of thought — yet the imagery is never fixed. Each canvas evolves through process and chance, allowing multiple interpretations to surface beyond any single theme.
Each work forms part of an ongoing exploration of abstraction, memory, and transformation, making MiLo one of the most prolific and recognizable contemporary artists on Catawiki.
