Constable & Co Ltd
Printed in Great Britain by T. and A. Constable, Printers to his majesty at the Edinburgh University Press
Early circulation- owner’s inscription reads ‘from Auntie Maud, Christmas 1919’
Illustrated with tipped-in colour plates mounted on card, most signed in the plate by Arthur Rackham, with numerous black and white decorations and chapter headpieces in the text.
Decorated endpapers intact and clean, front and rear.
Condition fair but complete.
Original blue cloth cover with gilt titles and ornament bright on the front board. Spine is heavily worn and frayed, front cover is partially detached.
A couple of plates with their cardboard mounts are loose, three have a faint corner crease and one has tiny white marks.
170 pages, generally clean, the paper is cream and a little soft at edges as expected, tissue paper protectors are browned, this has offset in places and there is clear tape at first free endpaper.
Beautiful book with antiquated charm in spite of issues and superb illustrations by Arthur Rackham.
