Description from the seller
DESCRIPTION
Lot consisting of 3 Burmese lime pots in finely repoussé silver, crafted using the repoussé technique. They all feature floral decorations, but they do not form a set, even though they were purchased together in Myanmar in the early 2000s.
1) 2.4 cm in height, 3 cm in diameter, 10 g. Lime boxes of this size, intended to be slipped into the longyi, the traditional Burmese garment, are rare.
2°) 3.2 cm in height, 4 cm in diameter, 25 g. Lime boxes of this size, intended to be slipped into the longyi, the Burmese traditional garment, are rare. A very pretty maker's mark from the manufacturer, consisting of a dragon, on the bottom of the box.
3) 4.5 cm in height, 5 cm in diameter, 53 g. The lime boxes of this size were for domestic use and were often used to honor important guests.
Very beautiful goldsmithing work.
These boxes were used to hold quicklime, which, mixed with areca nut and spices and wrapped in a betel leaf, was chewed to produce a euphoric effect. This practice persists in Burma (Myanmar).
Around the beginning of the 20th century.
State
Fair condition, but they show signs of their age and use; the smallest one is in fair condition, with chips on the edge (see photos).
It will be carefully packaged, with traceable shipping.
