RENATO BORSATO
Renato Borsato was born in Venice in 1927. During his painting career he established himself especially at the beginning among the best Italian painters of the postwar period, attracting the attention of critics and the public, also as the winner of numerous national and international painting prizes, thanks to his painting with impressionistic suggestion, characterized by great lyricism and expressive intensity, due to a unique talent in the use of color. He traveled painting in Switzerland, Austria and France where he stayed, in 1953, in Paris. The year 1954 is the year of definitive consecration: he participates with 5 works in the Venice Biennale and wins the Tursi prize. In ’55 he is again in France and is invited to the Quadriennale of Rome. In 1956 he again participates in the Venice Biennale with three paintings, one of which is purchased by the President of the Republic Giovanni Gronchi and one by the Galleria d’Arte Modena of Rome. In the same year he is again in Paris where the Galérie Bernheim organizes a solo show of his and he is interviewed by French television. In 1957 he stays in Milan, in the following years in Viareggio and London. Among the prizes received in these years, we recall the most important: two first prizes and two second prizes at the 40th, 41st, 42nd, 43rd Bevilacqua La Masa Collective; at the International Exhibition of Gorizia a prize in 1954 and the Absolute Prize in 1955; La Spezia National Exhibition “Portovenere Prize” in 1955; First Prize Triveneta of Portogruaro 1956; Third International Show of Painting in Moscow; Gold Medal of the Senate of the Republic at the National Prize of Frosinone 1957. Invited to Germany to the “Rassegna di pittura italiana” in 1959/60. In ’61 he is still in Milan where he achieves a sensational success with his solo show at the Galleria Ventitré. The Sixties and Seventies are rich in international exhibitions and recognitions from critics and the public. In 1979 he was appointed president of the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation. In the eighties, Borsato is now recognized as one of the most important artists operating in Italy and his prices are continually rising. In 1986 the Galleria d’Arte Piero Della Francesca, which already in the seventies had included works by Borsato in some group and thematic exhibitions, organized a large solo show of him. The collaboration continues uninterrupted until the artist’s death, which occurs in Venice, in July 2013.
