Description from the seller

ewer
Canton porcelain
China, Guangdong Province
Qing Dynasty, late 19th century
36 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm
This ewer of impressive size, with an elongated piriform body, a tightened neck and an S-shaped spout, is equipped with a tall arched handle. It belongs to the decorative repertoire called "famille rose", typical of Cantonese workshops of the second half of the 19th century, intended for both the domestic market and export.
The setting, extremely lush, combines a background adorned with emerald-green foliate scrolls, punctuated by pink flowers and butterflies, with polylobed reserves. These host figurative scenes of interior figures (young women, literati and servants in pavilions), alternating with naturalistic medallions depicting birds, flowers and insects. The whole is executed in opaque enamels enhanced with gilding, in a technique characteristic of Canton productions. The rim and some borders are accented with a fine gold line.
The base features a wide, unmarked ring foot, with a lightly satin white glaze, in keeping with utilitarian and decorative pieces of this period.
Condition: wear from use and rubbing of the gilding. Good condition! Observed under UV.
Provenance: Portuguese Collection - Kanaka The Collection
Shipping: Shipped with UPS / CTT with insurance and tracking
