Pair of blue opaline fantasy vases – Saint-Louis – model reproduced in the catalog – Napoleon III era (Second Empire)

Rare pair of large blue opaline decorative vases, attributed to the Saint-Louis Crystal Glassworks, France, Napoleonic III – Second Empire period (circa 1852–1870).

The vases feature a globular body molded with a so-called 'pineapple' decoration, composed of bulging beads in high relief, paired with a slender neck molded with fluting and stylized leaves.

This combination of decorative motifs corresponds to models reproduced in the Saint-Louis manufactory's catalog and on its historic plates, where the body and neck moldings were used modularly to create decorative novelty vases.

The form, the ornamental vocabulary, and the opaline material are characteristic of Saint-Louis productions under the Second Empire, a period marked by a taste for rich, voluminous, and colorful decorative objects.

The color is a rich opalescent blue, even and luminous, very decorative and sought after by collectors of 19th-century French opaline.
