Pair of Art Nouveau cast iron candlesticks from Germany, estimated period 1980–1990, 50 cm high with a 15 x 15 cm base, total weight 3.2 kg, in good condition with signs of aging.
Description from the seller
Pair of Art Nouveau Candlesticks – Cast Iron
In excellent condition – No reserve.
Impressive and highly sculptural pair of Art Nouveau style candlesticks, executed in heavy cast iron and designed, contributed to early WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) Jugendstil production.
The elegant, elongated stems and organically pierced bases closely relate to documented WMF and related German Jugendstil designs from the period, characterized by flowing botanical forms and architectural openwork. The refined proportions, strong sculptural quality, and substantial casting are fully consistent with high-grade German and Central European manufacture from the early 20th century.
While unmarked, the overall design language, construction, and aesthetic place these candlesticks firmly within the WMF circle and comparable top-tier Jugendstil metalwork of circa 1900–1915.
The dramatic openwork bases create a striking interplay of light and shadow, making these not only functional candlesticks but true decorative sculptures. Their size and weight give them a powerful presence — ideal for collectors of WMF, Jugendstil, and museum-quality Art Nouveau objects.
