European-made globe dating to 1947–1956, with an aluminium and paper construction and a metal base and axis, produced in France and attributed to Girard, Barrère et Thomas.
Description from the seller
European-made antique globe, with cartography in French, datable between 1947 and 1956, attributable to Girard, Barrère et Thomas, who at that period signed semi-officially as "Made in France" or Union Française.
The period is confirmed by the presence of the designation Union française and the European colonies still shown on the map.
The globe presents pre-decolonization historical cartography, with references to territories such as the Dutch East Indies, Portuguese Colonies, and Belgian Colonies, making it an interesting object both decorative and historically documentary.
A sphere made of papier-mâché, covered with printed paper, with the original metal base and shaft. The colors are subdued and typical of school and study globes from the postwar era.
Genuine article, not a modern reproduction.
Period
1947 – 1956 (second postwar period)
Materials
Sphere: papier-mâché / printed paper
Base and support: metal
Good overall condition relative to age.
It exhibits normal signs of aging: light wear to the paper, patina, and small superficial marks visible in the photo. No structural damage. The original base is stable.
Note
An ideal item for globe collectors, vintage furnishings, historical studies, or as a decorative piece with character.
Shipping
Careful packing with adequate protective measures to ensure safety during transport.
