Description from the seller
Rare Hermes 2000 Typewriter – Fully Working – Case & Original Accessories – Made in Switzerland
This Hermes 2000 is a rare and early Swiss portable typewriter, manufactured by E. Paillard & Cie. in Yverdon, Switzerland. Today, the Hermes 2000 is far less commonly encountered than later Hermes models.
A Brief History
Paillard was founded at the end of the 19th century as a manufacturer of phonographs and precision mechanical instruments. In 1913, the company entered the typewriter market, and within two decades Switzerland became the third-largest typewriter-producing country in the world, after the United States and Germany.
The Hermes 2000, introduced in the early 1930s, quickly gained international recognition for its build quality, reliability, and refined typing action, establishing the foundation for the legendary reputation later enjoyed by the Hermes brand.
Condition & Functionality
The typewriter is fully working and tested. All keys, carriage movement, and main functions operate correctly.
Please note: the ribbon currently installed is dry and should be replaced to achieve optimal typing results.
Standard replacement ribbons are readily available.
This example is particularly desirable as it is complete with its original carrying case and original cleaning brushes, accessories that are often missing. The machine presents in excellent cosmetic condition for its age, with well-preserved finishes and clean, legible markings.
Known for its light and precise typing action, concave round keys, and solid Swiss engineering, the Hermes 2000 represents an important early chapter in the history of Swiss typewriter manufacturing.
Item will be carefully packed for safe delivery.
