Description from the seller
AUTHOR
Mario Victorio Dini (1901-?) Italian painter. Born in the town of Colle di Buggiano, in the province of Pistoia, he grew up immersed in the world of art thanks to his father's profession, a well-known antiquarian who encouraged his talent at an early age. This domestic formation, together with a deep observation of the Tuscan territory, led him to develop a painting style strongly rooted in the post-Macchiaiolo tradition. His career, pursued steadily until the Eighties, saw him as a protagonist of important national exhibitions in cities such as Milan, Rome and Cortina d’Ampezzo, consolidating his reputation as a careful chronicler of the Tuscan landscape.
The poetry of Dini expresses itself through a tactile and vibrant brushstroke, capable of transforming rural views, isolated farmhouses, and hillside paths into images charged with atmospheric suggestion. Her works, such as Porta di Massa or Strada in Collina, eschew abstraction to celebrate an everyday reality made of light and volumes, typical of the Val di Nievole.
Description
"Scena di Genere, Al Solicello", oil on panel, 46×40 cm with frame, 18×24 cm the panel alone, 1974, signed lower right. On the verso, title, date and signature.
It captures a moment of everyday quiet that is typical of rural Tuscan life. The subject depicts four elderly men seated side by side, caught in a moment of outdoor rest, probably enjoying the warmth of the low sun that gives the painting its title. The figures are characterized by clothing typical of the peasant classes, with wide-brimmed hats and walking sticks. The author turns a simple scene of village life into a choral narrative of the human condition and of silent conviviality.
From a technical standpoint, the composition develops along a horizontal axis where the figures, though close, maintain their own spatial individuality thanks to a light brushstroke of post-MaCHiaiolo lineage. Dini lays on the color with dense, material strokes, working with “blots” of light and shadow that build the volumes without the need for sharp contours. The color palette plays on warm earth tones, browns, and olive greens, contrasted with a bright, vibrant background that emphasizes the luminous afternoon atmosphere. This work fits perfectly into the artist’s poetics, a faithful interpreter of Tuscan reality and the late-Macchiaioli school. A painting with a fresh execution and a pleasing aesthetic impact.
Condition Report
Good overall condition, the work is intact throughout, with vivid, clearly legible colors and brushstrokes. The frame is included free of charge.
