Scherzi poetici + Cicalate by Lorenzo Panciatichi, 1st edition in this format, Florence 1729, Italian, 110 pages, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Poetical Jests + Cicalate by Lorenzo Panciatichi in Florence: for Michele Nestenus and Francesco Moücke, 1729. pp. 47, (1); 59, (1); cm. 19 x 12. The two works in the same volume. Edited by Antonmaria Biscioni,
Nineteenth-century binding in half-leather with marbled boards; woodcut ornament on the title page; woodcut initial. Interior in order, with no smudges or foxing.
The author is the Florentine Lorenzo Panciatichi (1635 - 1676), a figure of great erudition, eminent member of the Academy of the Crusca, of unstable and eccentric character; he died of an excess of madness by throwing himself into a well and drowning, perhaps fearing to be charged with heresy. His works were largely destroyed at the behest of the Church. Among his writings, Scherzi e Cicalate: rhymes and prose in which stand out Ditirambi per Stravizi, Mascherata sui giovani amanti delle donne fiorentine, Cicalata in lode della padella e della frittura, Controccicalata dell’Imperfetto.cc. etc.
