Description from the seller
UV Checked
Covered teapot
Polychrome enameled porcelain
China, Guangzhou (Canton) workshops
End of the 19th century
Height: 17 cm
Width (spout with handle): 22 cm
Body diameter: 13 cm
A tall cylindrical teapot, resting on an annular foot, equipped with a straight tubular spout, an angular side handle, and a slightly domed lid with a crowned knob gilded in gold.
The decor is extremely dense, arranged in reserved cartouches, alternating with indoor scenes of figures (women and children, furniture, pavilions), floral and bird medallions, peonies, butterflies, fruits, and branches.
The reserves are framed by emerald green and pink leafy scrolls, with yellow and gold highlights. The vivid palette (magenta pink, green, yellow, blue, iron red) and the narrative treatment of the figures perfectly correspond to the Canton export style, produced for the Western market. Beak and handle left white, simply outlined with gold fillets, in keeping with a common practice in these workshops.
Unmarked base, which is normal for these commercial productions.
Serving teapot for domestic or ceremonial use, intended for export trade (Europe/United States).
Condition :
Good overall condition. Wear from use, slight rubbing of gilding, small impurities and firing spots in the clay. Some signs of age on the interior. No cracks or restorations. Observed under UV.
Provenance: Portuguese Collection - Kanaka The Collection
Shipping: Shipped with UPS / CTT with insurance and tracking
