Description from the seller

UV checked !

Rare!
Polychrome porcelain coupe and jardinière
China, Qing Dynasty, famille rose
19th century
Height: 10 cm excluding the base
Diameter: 18 cm

Circular dish with flared sides resting on a straight foot, presented on a carved black wooden base. The piece is made of fine porcelain with a polychrome enamel decoration on glaze.

The exterior is adorned with a seamless narrative scene depicting dignitaries and scholars in official dress, gathered around a banquet table. The characters are portrayed vividly, in an anecdotal register typical of court scenes or scholarly gatherings. Expressive faces, robes with stylized floral motifs, and gestural postures create a theatrical effect. The décor is punctuated by elements of interior architecture (panels, screens, furniture, planters, scholar’s objects), painted in highlights of blue, pink, green, yellow, and manganese.

A secondary medallion features a table bearing two potted plants (bonsai and bamboo), a motif associated with the refined taste for cultivated nature.

The interior is entirely covered with an intense turquoise glaze, contrasting with the whiteness of the body and accented by a fine gold border on the rim. The reverse features the same turquoise glaze and bears at its center a red six-character seal mark, apocryphal.

Wooden base.

Condition :
Visible wear to the gilding on the lip, light soiling and small enamel spots.
Cracked in two; fractures. Restored. Observed under UV.

Provenance: Portuguese Collection - Kanaka The Collection

Shipping: Shipped with UPS / CTT with insurance and tracking
