AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

UV checked!

Pillow (cushion)
Polychrome enameled porcelain
Famille rose
Length: 15 cm
Height: 12.5 cm
Depth: 7 cm

Trapezoidal-shaped cushion with a slightly inclined upper plateau, made of molded hard porcelain, hollow, decorated with polychrome enamels on overglaze in the so-called famille rose palette. The two main faces feature a naturalistic, freely painted ornament depicting a bird of the pheasant/phoenix type perched among peonies and flowering branches, symbolizing beauty, prosperity, and rank.

The short sides are pierced with oval and square geometric cutouts outlined in iron red, designed to lighten the piece and promote air circulation. The glaze, ivory-white and slightly speckled with firing impurities, covers the whole.

Ceramic pillows were commonly used in traditional Chinese homes, valued for their summer coolness and for preserving hairstyles and adornments. The polychrome examples of this quality often reflect domestic use by the affluent or literate classes.

Condition :
Good overall condition. Wear along the edges and corners, small nicks, slight loss of glaze and age-related stains. No cracks or restorations. Observed under UV light.

Shipping: Shipped with UPS / CTT with insurance and tracking
Possible to have a combined shipment with other items! Partial refund for the second delivery.
