Description from the seller
Marine painting "The Dock Sentinels" - 2026
Imagine this painting in your interior.
This artwork, titled 'Sentinels of the Quay', is a semi-abstract painting that captures the essence of a port with economy of means and a remarkable geometric strength. They ground the scene, depicting the docks, piers and the waterline. These broad bands of color (gray, beige, light blue) create a sense of stability and flat calm. The masts of the sailing ships traverse the canvas from bottom to top. They act as 'sentinels', breaking the monotony of the horizontal lines and bringing an ascending dynamism.
This painting conveys an impression of peaceful solitude. The absence of human figures and the immobility of the masts suggest a suspended moment. The 'sentinels' are not vigilant and stressed guards, but silent witnesses to the passage of time in a harbor shelter.
Painting by the artist painter Yves Decaudan - 1954
Acrylic on cotton canvas, wooden stretcher frame, unframed, dimensions 60 x 80 cm
