Description from the seller

Monumental centerpiece in polychrome maiolica – Giovanni Mollica Manufacture, Naples

An extraordinary and majestic polychrome maiolica centerpiece, produced by the renowned Neapolitan workshop of Giovanni Mollica, among the most appreciated in the Neapolitan ceramic scene of the 19th century. A work of strong dramatic impact, conceived to dominate the space and engage with interiors of great prestige.
The oval body is entirely decorated with figurative scenes in a Neoclassical taste, with mythological figures and cherubs rendered with refined painting skill, framed by rich phytomorphic borders and ornamental motifs in shades of blue, yellow ochre, ramina green, and ivory white. The sculpted handles in the form of a winged female figure, modeled in the round, lend the whole piece a sculptural character of rare elegance, elevating the artifact beyond mere decorative function.
The quality of the execution emerges in the finesse of the drawing, in the chromatic vitality that remains perfectly legible, and in the compositional complexity, typical of high‑level productions intended for cultivated patrons. The base and the upper edge feature a continuous decoration that reinforces the formal harmony of the whole.
The centerpiece was professionally restored in a remote era, with a conservation intervention carried out according to traditional criteria: the restoration is completely imperceptible to the naked eye and does not in any way compromise either the aesthetic reading or the integrity of the work.
