AUTHOR
Claudio Morgigno (1949) is an Italian painter. Born in Rome, he is an artist who has traversed the seasons of Italian contemporary art with a coherent and deep inquiry. After completing his training at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma, he began to exhibit regularly from the 1970s, distinguishing himself with a pictorial language that blends the intensity of matter with a refined psychological investigation. His artistic evolution has led him to explore the boundary between figuration and abstraction. Through dense and stratified brushstrokes, Morgigno builds images that seem to emerge from the depths of memory, making color the true protagonist of the emotional narrative on his canvases.
Morgigno’s exhibition activity has been rich and steady, with notable solo and group shows that have reached institutions and galleries both national and international. Among the most significant moments of his career are the exhibitions at the Civic Museum of Foggia and participation in surveys dedicated to the new Italian figurative, where his ability to engage with light and space has been widely recognized by critics.
Description
"Landscape, Country Farmhouse", oil on canvas, 75×95 cm with frame, 50×70 cm the canvas alone, 1973, signed and dated bottom left.
At the center of the scene stands a rural farmhouse, characterized by square volumes and windows that open like dark slits on walls of ochre and cream. Everyday life is evoked by clothes on a line, rendered with touches of white and blue, which confer a note of lived-in life to an otherwise solitary architecture. The structure is immersed in sparse yet intricate vegetation, where the bare branches of trees rise against a gray, leaden sky, creating a natural frame that envelops the building in a timeless atmosphere..
From a technical standpoint, the painting reveals Morgigno's extraordinary mastery of using the spatula and the loaded brush, which generate a dense and almost three-dimensional surface. The composition is built on a diagonal axis that guides the eye from the barren foreground toward the heart of the dwelling, skillfully balancing the positive and negative spaces. The chromatic play rests on a range of earthy, gray, and brown tones, suddenly illuminated by the bright glints of the façade and the sunlit fabrics. This work fits perfectly within the artist's poetics of that era, bearing witness to his interest in landscape and his manner influenced by Impressionism and the Italian Macchiaioli.
Condition Report
Excellent overall condition. The work appears intact in every part, with vivid chroma and brushwork that are easily legible. The frame should be understood as complimentary.
Tracked and insured shipment with adequate packaging.
