Pair of antique Umbertino-style two-seat salon divans from 1850–1900, upholstered in rose cotton damask with wooden inlays and ball-footed legs, dimensions approximately 250×60 cm with heights around 114 cm and 187×60 cm with heights around 112 cm.
Description from the seller
Two representative pieces in a generally Umbertine style, of substantial dimensions, namely 250 x 60 x 114 cm and 187 x 60 x 112 cm.
The original setting was in the waiting lounge reserved for visitors of a historic institute.
The larger seat features the lower wooden band veneered in walnut and the finish of the backrest edge in walnut inlaid pieces laid side by side. The other piece is natural wood, without veneer, and onion-shaped legs for both.
There are minor defects in the braiding along the rear band of the main seat. The upholstery is in a damask fabric in a salmon pink/white shade with a floral bouquet enclosed within opulent, intricate medallions. Matching cushions.
The rear side of the larger seat is not upholstered in fabric and is designed to be placed against a wall; the smaller seat is upholstered on the rear with damask fabric. The upholstery of the covering, recalling the original, was renewed during restoration a few years ago.
The condition is very good: completely free of stains or signs of wear. The cushions have always been protected by a premium fringed fabric cover, which is available.
The two chairs remain unique pieces, distinctive enough to define an important space intended for an audience waiting to be received or wishing to rest during a visit.
