Description from the seller

Romanesque panel, an original fragment of a medieval polychrome wooden coffered ceiling.
The piece features painted decoration in square compartments, with stylized vegetal motifs (trilobed leaves, coiled stems, and rosettes), executed with the egg tempera technique, in a palette of dark greens and almagra reds, characteristic of the early Mudéjar ceilings of the northeastern Iberian Peninsula.
The support is made of solid wood, with visible grain, holes from ancient nails, and wear consistent with its age. The original polychromy is preserved, with losses and abrasions typical of the passage of time, without any visible modern overpainting.
This type of element was part of painted ceilings (alfarjes) in medieval civil or religious buildings. According to oral tradition of the antique trade, the piece would be related to the Albarracín area in the province of Teruel, Spain.
Condition: good for its age, with slight color loss. The wood has been treated against wood-boring insects such as woodworm.
A collectible work, suitable for collectors of medieval art.
