Beautiful contemporary edition of the original famous historical novel by the great politician, patriot, and Turin-born writer. Set during the siege of Florence in 1530 by the troops of Emperor Charles V, the work deals with the disputes between the followers of Girolamo Savonarola and the supporters of the Medici house. The city faction nostalgic for Savonarola was called the Piagnoni for their constant lamenting; that favorable to the Medicean Signoria was named the Palleschi for the six circles present in the Medici coat of arms. Two volumes. Beautiful binding in half leather. Dimensions 18x12, pages XII, 356, 363. Excellent condition.
