Primal Existence (2022) is an original expressive oil painting by Melissa Broadwell, created through an unplanned, spontaneous process. The work expresses raw life-force energy through bold color, layered movement, and expressive brushwork. The composition evokes transformation, survival, and the spiritual intensity of existence—where emotion, nature, and unseen forces feel intertwined. Rich contrasts and dynamic motion create a powerful contemporary abstract statement piece with strong presence and depth.
Melissa Broadwell (American, b. 1966) is an Oklahoma-based, self-taught autistic abstract expressionist artist known for intuitive, spiritually guided oil paintings that explore energy, emotion, and light. She began painting in 2021. She has exhibited in Egypt and Finland. Broadwell is an autistic artist whose work is created without preliminary sketches, allowing the composition to emerge through instinct and inner vision. She is also a recipient of the BoldBrush Outstanding Digital Award.
