Latina Grammatica by Gerardus Joannes Vossius, a Dutch-language scholarly work bound in leather with 756 pages, first published in 1682 and with parts extending to 1726.
Description from the seller
A compiled collection of Latin schoolbooks from the late 17th and early 18th centuries, used in official education in the Dutch Republic. This work consists of several separately paginated volumes bound together, a common practice in Latin schools. It contains:
-Latina Grammar - Gerardus Joannes Vossius, Utrecht (Ultrajecti), Georgius a Poolsum and Johannes Ribbius, 1682, 351 pp.
-Latin Syntax - Gerardus Joannes Vossius, Amsterdam, Adrianus Wor and heirs of G. under de Linden, 1726, 270 pp.
- Etymology - 55 pp. 1726, Vossius
- Latin Grammar for the Use of Schools, adorned, 80 pp., Vossius 1726.
The parts have been printed with the permission of the authorities of Holland and West Friesland.
In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the school day of thousands of boys in the Republic began with exactly this kind of books in their hands. In a cold classroom, by candlelight they practiced their Latin — the key to the university, church, and state. The book has therefore been written especially for the young new elite in the Republic.
