French Napoleon III era large wall mirror in wood with gilded stucco, circa 1850, 125 × 75 cm, gilded finish in gold with natural patina and minor damages to the stucco fronton and gilding.
Description from the seller
Large French Napoleon III mirror in wood and gilded stucco – France, circa 1850
Dimensions : 125 × 75 cm
Important French mirror dating from around 1850, made of carved wood and gilded stucco, characteristic of the early Napoleon III period and the aesthetics of the Second Empire.
The frame is richly adorned with raised floral motifs running across the entire molding.
The sculpted pediment, particularly elaborate, features an eagle with outstretched wings dominating a central cartouche, framed by scrolls and foliage. This heraldic and imperial-inspired décor is typical of French productions from the mid-19th century.
The overall composition, both monumental and decorative, fully aligns with the historicist taste of the Second Empire, blending classical, imperial references and abundant ornamentation.
The mirror retains an old structure with a wooden frame, a backboard, and a traditional assembly system.
The original gilding, now patinated, shows natural wear that testifies to the object's age.
State:
Old object, in used condition, presenting:
Gaps and cracks in the stucco, particularly on the pediment.
wear and changes to the gilding,
Signs of the passage of time on the wood and the structure,
Restorations to be planned.
The condition is consistent with a mirror from this period and does not diminish its strong decorative impact. The flaws are visible in the photographs.
Shipping and pickup:
The item will be shipped with the utmost care, in secure and protective packaging, suitable for an antique and fragile object.
Free on-site pickup is also possible by appointment for buyers who wish.
This mirror is a distinctive decorative piece, ideal for a classic or contemporary interior, a prestigious setting, an old residence, or a restoration project.
