Figure - Christuskind op wereldbol - Polychrome wood

An antique religious statue of the Christ Child, standing on a globe and holding a loose metal globe with a cross (globus cruciger) in its hand. Traditional Christian iconography, referring to Christ as ruler over the world.

The sculpture is carved from wood and polychromed, with light-blue glass eyes. The style and workmanship point to a devotional object from Southern Europe (Italy or Spain), dating to the late 18th to early 19th century.

The polychromy shows signs of aging and wear consistent with its age. No recent restorations observed. A characterful and authentic object within religious folk art.
