Unique handmade olive wood chessboard from Italy, dating to 1990–2000, measuring 41×35.5 cm with a 27×27 cm playing field and 3.5 cm squares, height about 7 cm, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
This chessboard is a one-of-a-kind piece, made entirely of olive wood by an Italian wood artisan.
This is not a mass-produced item, nor an industrial object: every element speaks of the manual gesture, the choice of material, and the experience of the person who built it.
The chessboard is made up of numerous olive wood blocks, cut individually and assembled one by one, forming an ensemble reminiscent of free and spontaneous marquetry. The natural color variations, irregular grain, knots, and small dimensional differences are not defects, but an integral part of the design.
The black boxes are colored black, in contrast with the warm natural tones of the olive tree.
These slight irregularities make the object authentic: a chessboard perfect in its imperfection, as only true handcrafted objects happen to be. No forced symmetry, no standardization: every side, every square, every junction is slightly different from the others.
The chess pieces are also handmade, and you can tell at once: no two are perfectly identical. The shapes, proportions, and finishes vary slightly from piece to piece, giving the set a lively, one-of-a-kind character.
This lot is aimed at lovers of handcrafted chessboards, for those who seek an object with a soul, more than just a simple gaming tool. It is a chessboard that functions practically, but who is born above all as a collectible display piece, capable of telling a story made of wood, hands, and time.
Dimensions:
Chessboard: 41 × 35.5 cm
Playing field: 27 × 27 cm
Boxes: 3.5 × 3.5 cm
Height Re: about 7 cm
Conditions:
Overall in good condition, consistent with a handcrafted solid wood item. Any irregularities, color variations, or asymmetries should be considered an integral and characteristic part of the handmade craftsmanship.
