Description from the seller

Museum Export Vase – Egermann, Nový Bor
Czechoslovakia | ca. 1960–1980 | Oriental commissioned production
This monumental and exceptionally rare object originates from the period circa 1960–1980, an era representing the peak of Czechoslovak artistic glass production and its strongest international export success. During this time, the highest-quality works were created in Nový Bor, intended exclusively for prestigious foreign clientele. This vase represents the pinnacle of Egermann’s export production.
Due to its large scale, mass, and rich execution, this vase was not intended for ordinary interiors, but rather for representative spaces, palaces, and important institutions in Oriental and Islamic countries. Objects of this size and technical complexity were produced only exceptionally.
Oriental symbolism
The decoration of the vase is derived from Islamic artistic tradition and features stylized Arabic calligraphic motifs referencing verses from the Qur’an. These elements were not merely decorative, but carried a symbolic, spiritual, and representational meaning, clearly confirming that the vase was produced as a custom commission for Oriental markets, particularly the Persian Gulf region and North Africa.
Material and technique – the highest level of craftsmanship
The vase is made of high-quality opal (milk) glass and is entirely hand-decorated. All ornamentation is hand-painted using enamel colors and richly enhanced with genuine 24-carat gold.
The gold was applied using traditional techniques and subsequently kiln-fired, including the massive sculptural handles, which were individually formed from hot glass and then gilded with genuine 24kt gold. The use of such an extensive amount of gold on an object of this size would be virtually unthinkable today.
Commissioned, non-serial production
This is not a serially produced object. Vases of this type were manufactured exclusively on commission, in extremely limited numbers. Their production involved a large team of master glassmakers, painters, gilders, and technicians. The entire process consisted of multiple stages and required exceptional coordination and craftsmanship.
Each piece is a unique original, created for a specific market and client. For this reason, such vases are today regarded as museum-level artifacts of Czechoslovak glassmaking.
Condition – museum quality
The vase is unused and has been stored throughout its existence in its original packaging. It has never been displayed or otherwise used. It has been preserved in an exceptional, museum-grade condition — free of chips, cracks, losses of gilding, or damage to the painted decoration. The gold and colors remain fully intact, retaining their original brilliance.
Final assessment
This is an exceptionally rare, large-format, and highly representative object that fully meets the criteria of a museum exhibit:
commissioned export production
monumental scale and presence
master-level hand craftsmanship
genuine 24-carat gold
Oriental and spiritual symbolism
A piece of significant historical, artistic, and collector value, fully worthy of inclusion in museum collections, galleries, or top-tier private collections.
