Karel Verschooten (Antwerp 1910 - 1993) was a Belgian painter and watercolorist. He debuted as a self-taught artist, but joined the Sint-Lucaskring in Merksem in the 1930s, where he received further training from Rik Luyten, Oscar Verpoorten and Jozef Mous. He realized in a powerful, vividly depicted style Scheldt landscapes, which are compositionally often characterized by their overwhelming, tormented skies, but he also painted heath landscapes, harvest scenes, bouquets and still lifes. In his color palette beige, gray and especially ochre predominate. A member of the Kunstkring Sirkel. A retrospective of his work at the town hall in Mortsel in 1990 on the occasion of his 80th birthday. He is listed in Belgian art books.
