Studio di figura, a 19th‑century charcoal drawing on brown paper from Italy, 45 × 35 cm including the frame and signed in the lower right.
Description from the seller
Guglielmo Ciardi (Venice, 1842 - there, 1917), Figure study, charcoal on brown paper, 30 x 20.5 cm, dimensions including the frame 45 x 35 cm, signed bottom right.
Offered without reserve price
A rare and important drawing by the great Venetian master Guglielmo Ciardi, among the leading Northern Italian masters of the late nineteenth century.
This drawing belongs to a series of high-quality charcoal drawings depicting male subjects of this type, variously attested in the literature (a similar work was sold at auction in Venice in April 2021 and reached 600 euros, despite the paper being very damaged and deteriorated).
The work in question originated as a study in posing and stands out for a particular modernity and theatricality of the chosen pose, typical of the great painting of the late nineteenth century.
Please note several tears in the paper, particularly a vertical tear running the full length of the sheet near the center. The tears have been reassembled but not restored. Also note some other stains and widespread abrasions on the surface of the sheet.
Piece accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and Legitimate Provenance.
Shipped by express courier within 24/48 hours with INSURANCE.
Please note that in the case of sales abroad, shipping can only be carried out AFTER obtaining the export authorization from the Ministry of Cultural Heritage (Certificate of Free Circulation of Fine Arts). This process generally involves a minimum waiting period of about 20 days.
The shipping costs abroad include the expense related to the export process for Fine arts and any customs procedures.
Lots awarded for a value of less than 1,000 euros are shipped only within the European Community.
