Description from the seller
Completely revised
Around 1964, Breitling took a strategic turn with the launch of the Top Time collection. The Swiss brand, then known for its professional chronographs like the Navitimer or the Chronomat, realized that a generation of enthusiasts – younger, more dynamic – did not yet have access to its watchmaking universe. To meet this demand, Breitling envisioned a watch designed for 25–35-year-olds, more affordable, more streamlined, but still equipped with a reliable and precise movement.
This Breitling Top Time ref. 2009, produced between 1964 and 1969, is a perfect example. Its gold-plated cushion case, with its elegantly striped flanks, reflects the design trends of the latter half of the sixties, and the beginnings of the 70s-inspired aesthetic. The bi-compax dial, with remarkable balance, adopts a configuration with two contrasting black sub-dials. The whole is discreetly signed “T SWISS MADE” at 6 o’clock, underscoring the piece’s authenticity.
On the movement side, you’ll find the Venus 188 hand-wound, an iconic calibre of the era, valued for its reliability and precision, serviced by our watchmakers and guaranteed for 1 year on its operation (excluding shocks and misuse).
With a 36 mm case diameter (38 mm lug-to-lug), a thickness of 12.30 mm with a domed Plexiglas, and a 20 mm lug width, this Top Time retains a strong presence while staying discreet. It is the perfect synthesis of accessibility, bold design and heritage.
