VANTA presents the original blue oil on canvas titled “Beryl”, 180 × 130 cm, hand signed, contemporary Austrian artwork from 2020+, sold direct from the artist and shipped unframed, rolled in a tube.
Description from the seller
“Beryl” (2025)
Oil on canvas
180 x 130 cm
The upper two-thirds of this canvas feature intricate patterns carved from a deep blue foundation - paint strategically removed using multiple techniques to reveal lighter passages that create complex abstract forms. But the bottom third shifts character completely, transitioning into smooth, uniform deep blue with no pattern or removal work. This creates a compositional tension between the worked upper area and the untouched lower field.
Represented by S-Gallery and available on Catawiki, the piece operates through this deliberate contrast. Where the upper portion shows all the evidence of process - scraping, wiping, carving - the lower section remains pristine and undisturbed. The transition between these two states happens gradually, making it unclear exactly where the pattern work ends and the pure color field begins.
The substantial canvas allows both approaches to establish their own presence. That intricate upper portion needs space to develop its complexity, while the smooth lower section requires enough territory to read as intentional choice rather than unfinished work. The result feels like looking at a process interrupted - or perhaps completed exactly as intended.
Shipping:
The work is delivered without a frame (professional packaging, rolled in a tube). it can easily be restretched by a professional or on your own, this is also cheaper then the otherwise increased cost of shipping when sending paintings of this size stretched
The measurements indicated are those of the painting stretched and mounted on a frame (The actual
measurements of the canvas are larger to allow it to be mounted on a frame 2-4cm thick.
