In 1998 the book ‘Hollandse Velden’ was published, photos of amateur football in the Netherlands by photographer Hans van der Meer, with a long story by Jan Mulder. The book was an immediate success. The combination of sports photography and landscape photography, and then also with humor, appealed to many people. The demand for the book is still great, and after the English Magnum photographer Martin Parr declared it to be one of his favorite books, also increasingly from abroad. (The book was featured in “The Photobook: A History, Volume II” by Martin Parr & Gerry Badger (2006), pages 58, 69, 85.)
