Description from the seller
Complete correspondence of Diderot, an exhaustive 15-volume series published and annotated by Georges Roth and Jean Varloot, containing the philosopher's letters from 1713 to 1784. Diderot's French as well as his punctuation have been modernized.
It's a torment for me to write.
Diderot appears to be a proponent of enlightened despotism, that is, a monarchy in which the intellectual elites contribute to the state’s lasting legacy. He believes he has found the model with Catherine II of Russia. But his political analyses hint at the coming revolutionary upheavals.
