André Dulaurens, born June 23, 1918 in Autun and who died in the same town on September 2, 1988, was a French painter, engraver, and man of letters. A discreet but prolific artist, he developed a body of work in which sensitivity blends with a gaze at reality, a taste for composition, and a search for personal expression.
Trained in a richly artistic milieu, Dulaurens explores several techniques: oil painting, drawing, watercolor, and printmaking. His works demonstrate a strong sense of light and a particular attention to atmospheres, whether in landscapes, intimate scenes, or more liberated compositions. His work has been regularly exhibited in regional and national exhibitions, and several of his pieces have been offered at public auctions, underscoring collectors’ sustained interest in his oeuvre.
Alongside his artistic practice, André Dulaurens also distinguishes himself as an author, notably publishing Les hommes de l’ombre in 1986. This dual identity—visual artist and writer—fuels a body of work in which observation, sensitivity, and reflection complement each other.
Even today, his work continues to be recognized, notably through references in art catalogues, which highlight the diversity and refinement of his career.
