Peter Robert Keil dedicates himself in this expressive portrait to the icon Barbra Streisand – a woman who embodies voice, stance and character. The image shows her with striking features, smoking, almost defiant, thus capturing her rebellious side.

Strong red, luminous yellow and a bold green hat dominate the image and reflect Keil’s unmistakable language of form: direct, wild, powerful. The brushwork is raw and lively – the Streisand figure becomes a projection surface of female strength.

The composition exudes joie de vivre, directness and artistic immediacy – a homage to color itself and an optimistic statement for any collection.

His artistically gifted mother fought her way with her son to West Berlin in the final phase of the war, where the two settled after the war. There Keil grew up in the working-class district of Berlin-Wedding and soon discovered his interest in painting – especially in expressionist artists as well as in the works of Pablo Picasso. The East Berlin-born painter Otto Nagel became his mentor from around 1954 and taught him initial techniques and painting methods.
