Laurence JENKELL - WRAPPING BONBON COMPOSITION BLEU OR VERT

Laurence Jenkell, also known as Jenk Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, is a self-taught French contemporary artist and sculptor, renowned worldwide for her 'Wrapping Bonbon' sculptures. Born on December 31, 1965, she lives and works on the French Riviera and opened an artist gallery in Monaco in 2022 to showcase her works. She began her artistic exploration in the mid-1990s, experimenting with various techniques that allowed her to master plexiglass and develop her own torsion technique. Torsion or wrapping involves literally rolling the material onto itself combined with the twisting of the papillote. Using this technique, she created the Bonbon sculpture that made her famous and became her artistic signature. For nearly 20 years, Jenkell has sculpted brightly colored candies in materials such as bronze, plexiglass, aluminum, marble, polyester, and Murano glass. Influenced by her imagination, the twist gains full meaning, and her works reflect a cultural reflection and process: the theme of the candy combines simplicity and universality. With great freedom and determination, Laurence Jenkell continues her research and experimentation around the twist, developing new collections that expand her repertoire of forms.
