Description from the seller
Constant Artz
Born Paris 03-06-1870 - Died 23-02-1951.
The watercolor is handcrafted and framed, not under glass.
Constant Artz is the painter of the well-known, friendly, sunny scenes depicting a duck with ducklings at the edge of a ditch.
Vader Artz had studied under Jozef Israëls himself, and during his Paris period he was little influenced by his new surroundings. He painted Dutch landscapes and Dutch rural life in particular.
Constant attended The Hague Academy and afterwards secured a place as a pupil in the studio of the painter Tony Offermans. Offermans was also a typical Hague painter in the style of Israëls. In 1893 Constant moved from The Hague to Delft.
Through his connection with Jozef Israels, Father Artz knew a large number of painters, including not the cream of the crop. He also got on well with Willem Maris and Hendrik Willem Mesdag, who provided him with the necessary advice.
Later Artz moved to Soestdijk. The support of the buying public also helped Artz through the crisis years that were difficult for many artists. During the war he managed to support his family by trading paintings for food. Artz lived to a fairly old age and died in 1951 in Soestdijk.
The watercolor is carefully packaged and sent by registered mail. The dimensions are including the frame.
