Description from the seller
Japanese Satsuma tea service in hand-painted porcelain – for 8 people – 20th century
Main description
Hand-decorated Japanese porcelain tea service, attributed to Satsuma production in Japan, characterized by a dark ground with rich polychrome decorations and gilding.
The service features a refined figurative iconography with figures from Eastern tradition, architectural elements and floral motifs, executed in relief and with gilded overglaze enamels. The exterior surface shows the characteristic slightly grainy texture, consistent with early 20th-century Satsuma decorative wares intended for the export market.
The set consists of a teapot, a milk jug, a sugar bowl, and eight cups with their saucers, all matching in style, decoration, and workmanship.
