Description from the seller
Monumental West German floor vase – Scheurich 429-45 – deep green – circa 1968–1974
Description
Some objects don’t take up any space.
They take up space.
This large floor vase from Scheurich is an example of that.
45 centimeters tall. Heavy. Confident. Designed to be seen.
In the late 1960s, Scheurich developed a series of floor objects intended as architectural accents in interiors. Model 429-45 belongs to that category. Not a decorative afterthought, but a ceramic statement that you place down and leave standing.
The form is powerful and rhythmically built. Horizontal relief bands with oval cartouches give the body tension and structure. The deep green glaze lives. Dark and saturated, with subtle nuances arising from the reactive firing process. The dark interior deepens the silhouette and reinforces the sculptural character.
This isn't a vase that needs flowers.
He's strongest when he's empty.
