Description from the seller
Byzantine-style crucifix depicting Saint Damien. This crucifix is known for its deep Franciscan significance.
The original crucifix is the one before which Saint Francis of Assisi prayed and received Christ's call.
Marked on the back:
"CROCIFISSO CHE PARLA" means "Crucifix that speaks" in Italian, referring to the famous Crucifix of San Damiano. It was before this icon that Saint Francis of Assisi heard the voice of Jesus asking him to repair His Church, around the year 1205.
According to tradition, while Francis prayed before her, the figure of Christ came to life and spoke to him: “Francis, go, repair my house, which, as you see, is falling into ruin.”
Meaning: The original cross represents Christ not as suffering, but as the triumphant Christ who has already conquered death, with eyes open, not suffering, symbolizing the Resurrection and hope.
The cross is rich in iconographic details depicting various scenes and biblical figures.
gold-plated ceramic
Impeccable condition. Brand new.
