Description from the seller

Disco Fashion
Photo taken in the 1960s

A fearless stride from a future not yet named — all angles, shimmer, and dance-floor prophecy. She moves as if the air belongs to her, as if the decade itself is parting to make space. This is not simply fashion; this is ignition. Fabric becomes flame. Pose becomes punctuation. The body writes its own manifesto in light.

Before disco had a mirror ball, before the beat found its glitter, there was this — a modern woman stepping forward with sharpened silhouette and unflinching gaze. The reflective set fractures and multiplies her presence, turning one figure into many, echoing confidence into infinity. She is icon and architect of her own momentum. She does not wait for the spotlight — she generates it.

Photographed by Michael Joseph, this image captures the electric tremor of cultural shift: the moment when fashion stopped behaving and began performing. There is defiance in the stance, theatre in the reach, and something almost celestial in the upward stretch — as though she is touching tomorrow and pulling it closer.

An original darkroom print, mounted and hand-signed by the photographer, this one-off piece is both relic and revelation — a statement work for collectors drawn to fashion history, movement, and the poetry of reinvention. It does not whisper nostalgia. It strides through it in heels.

Mount dimensions: 50cm high by 40cm wide.
Dispatch: carefully packaged, flat and protected, ready for safe passage to its next home.

From my hands to yours with real care — I wrap and send each historical piece as if it were irreplaceable, because it is.

Seller's Story

My father, Michael Joseph, was a London-based advertising photographer from the mid-1960s to the early 1990s. Over those decades, he produced an extraordinary body of work—his most widely recognised image being the iconic Beggars Banquet gatefold for the Rolling Stones. My ongoing mission is to share and celebrate what we call “the other photos”: the lesser-known but no less compelling images from his archive. These are the works that lived beyond the headlines—test prints, alternative frames from major shoots, and quieter, more personal photographs, all made with his characteristic intensity, discipline, and devotion to craft. Much of their atmosphere comes from the darkroom itself. These are photographs shaped by light, timing, and handwork: intricate group compositions, sculptural still lifes, and moments that invite the viewer to linger and look again. Variety is central to the archive, and I frequently offer unique, one-off pieces that exist nowhere else. I hope you enjoy discovering my father’s work as much as I enjoy sharing it, and that you find here not just an image, but a genuine piece of photographic history. All works are dispatched carefully protected, and packed with devotion and care, appropriate to a one-off historical photographic print. US purchasers please note: Customs and excise charges are paid at source and included in the postage fee. No further charges should be due on delivery, unless regulations change.
