Description from the seller
Beautiful and large statuette depicting Saint James.
Made in the 1990s by the Haenecour Workshop (Belgium)
Saint James the Apostle, commonly called James the Greater, was one of the first disciples of Jesus and the brother of the Apostle John.
Son of Zebedee, he is nicknamed "the Greater" to distinguish him from James the Less. Jesus gave him the nickname "son of thunder" because of his fiery temperament.
He was the first of the twelve apostles to die as a martyr, beheaded around the year 42 or 44 on the orders of King Herod Agrippa in Jerusalem.
Patron saint of Spain, his relics are said to rest in Santiago de Compostela, one of the world’s most famous Christian pilgrimage sites.
He is traditionally depicted with a scallop shell, a pilgrim's staff (bourdon), a bag, and a wide-brimmed hat.
Feast: His/Her memory is celebrated on July 25.
