Description from the seller
Bronze tabletop crucifix – 19th century
An important devotional desk crucifix, dating from the 19th century, entirely cast in bronze, with a gold patina on Christ and a lighter patina on the cross and base, in keeping with 19th-century production.
The figure of Christ, cast in bronze of excellent quality, presents accurate and harmonious modeling, with particular attention to the anatomical rendering of the torso, to the finely defined loincloth, and to the expression of the face, tilted in an attitude of composed suffering, typical of sacred sculpture of the 19th century.
The cross, also in bronze, is elegantly shaped with trilobed terminals, an applied INRI cartouche, and radial decorative details. The piece rests on a stepped architectural base, also in bronze, which provides solidity, balance, and a commanding presence.
A work with strong visual and spiritual impact, originally intended for private chapels, domestic oratories, or upscale bourgeois environments; today ideal for collectors of sacred art or for interiors with character.
