Bodywork (1) - Castrol - Thrust SSC Paint Fragment - 1990-2000

ThrustSSC, driven by Andy Green, set the world land speed record in October 1997 at Black Rock Desert, Nevada, becoming the first vehicle to exceed the speed of sound, reaching 763.035 mph.

Presented here is a 1 x 3 mm paint specimen from the vehicle which is currently on display in the Coventry Transport Museum.

Since 2001, Thrust SSC has been an exciting exhibit at the Coventry Transport Museum. As a result of this over the 25 years rust occurs and separates paint from the main body. On the 16th July 2025, paint specimens from the record breaking car were able to be collected from corroded parts and fallen debris.

This is a rare opportunity to collect a piece of Land Speed history.

The specimen is preserved in a 7 x 5 inch frame.
