Ottograph (Otto Kruijsen)
Ottograph, a large-scale street-art painter from Amsterdam.
The artistic life of Ottograph began when he was 10 years old. With spray cans in hand he freshens up walls in Amstelveen, the town where he grew up. Later he moved to trains and subways and became a big name in the region. Otto also briefly studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam.
His first exhibition in the city in 1993 was a great success; the innovative character of his work was notable and respected. He invested in a computer and drawing program, and shortly thereafter his very first assignments for advertising campaigns for several leading companies came in. Ottograph has worked for major brands, including Ford, Mars, Mercedes, Nike, Playboy, Quote and Fanta.
Highlights: The Museum of Modern Art in Antwerp (Belgium) houses a gigantic Ottograph mural. Otto also painted murals in Moscow, Tokyo, Berlin, New York and San Francisco. Ottograph's contribution to street art goes beyond his own work, as he is also a community leader. He has organized several cooperative painting projects and ran the website ‘I Paint Everyday’ to encourage the tedious, but necessary practice of serious painting. Ottograph created Amsterdam's first real 24/7 outdoor street art gallery on the Wijdesteeg, which became a huge hit on Instagram #wijdesteeg.
Spring 2019 Ottograph began painting his self-portrait on the walls of Amsterdam.
Recently Otto painted an entire house in New York, and 3 murals in Lagos, Nigeria. In 2022 Ottograph created a gigantic mural for the Street Museum in Amsterdam.
Ottograph is currently converting an entire office building in Amsterdam-East into one gigantic artwork. He paints both the inside and the outside of the building.
