Description from the seller
The Last Cup in Silence
70×100 cm
Created by the artist E. Pérez Lezcano
The work is framed within a contemporary Cubist language, where the figure is fragmented and reconstructed through planes of color, integrating an intimate and symbolic narrative.
In this work I am interested in capturing that suspended moment that exists right before a decision, before a conscious pause. The character hasn’t drunk yet; he observes, thinks, draws back. All of it happens in that small silence.
I work the figure from a contemporary cubist language, fragmenting the body and face into color planes that assemble like an emotional architecture. Each form contains a tension: between what is shown and what is kept back, between the everyday gesture and its symbolic charge.
The wine glass, the bottle, and the table are not mere objects. They function as signs, as presences that converse with the figure and with the viewer. I’m interested in the viewer recognizing themselves in that intimate, almost confidential moment that we have all lived through at some point.
I paint from the making of color and form, seeking balance, rhythm, and a silent narrative. Before the final sip, it does not speak of the act of drinking, but of the time before, of waiting, of the thought that stops for one more second.
It is a work designed to be inhabited, observed at leisure, and to accompany the collector as an open-ended scene, always available for new readings.
