Description from the seller
Antique standing crucifix / altar cross, dating from the second half of the 19th century (circa 1850–1890).
The crucifix is crafted from solid oak wood, featuring a beautifully turned pedestal base and a dark, naturally aged patina consistent with 19th-century religious objects. The wood shows honest wear and surface marks due to age and devotional use.
The figure of Christ is hand-carved from bone, executed with fine anatomical details: visible rib cage, expressive facial features, delicately carved hair and drapery. Natural age-related patina and fine surface fissures are present, consistent with carved organic material and confirming authenticity.
The INRI plaque is also made of bone and mounted with an old metal nail. All elements appear original to the piece, with no visible modern replacements.
This type of crucifix was typically used for private devotion, chapels, or small altars in religious households.
