Phillyrea latifolia bonsai with an approximate 8 cm trunk thickness, about 20 cm in height and a 25 cm canopy, planted in a rectangular glazed ceramic pot (7 × 11 × 16 cm), an evergreen Mediterranean raft-style specimen.
Description from the seller
Phillyrea latifolia Bonsai – Powerful 8 cm Trunk – Natural Raft-Style Formation – Mediterranean Yamadori
Offered for auction is a refined and characterful Phillyrea latifolia bonsai, a classic evergreen species of the Mediterranean maquis, highly appreciated in bonsai for its strength, longevity, and naturally compact foliage.
This specimen features a powerful base with an impressive trunk thickness of approximately 8 cm, developing into a natural raft-like (Ikadabuki-inspired) formation. The composition suggests a single ancient trunk that, over time, has produced multiple upright shoots, creating a harmonious and organic multi-trunk structure. The transition from the base to the individual trunks is smooth and convincing, enhancing the impression of age and natural evolution.
The bark shows a mature, textured surface, typical of well-established Phillyrea, while the branching structure is dense and well distributed, offering excellent potential for further refinement. The foliage is small, leathery, and evergreen, with good natural reduction and healthy coloration, perfectly suited to bonsai cultivation.
The bonsai measures approximately:
• Tree height: 20 cm
• Canopy width: 25 cm
• Trunk thickness at base: approx. 8 cm
It is planted in a rectangular glazed ceramic pot (approx. 7 × 11 × 16 cm), whose deep blue tone contrasts elegantly with the earthy bark and the vivid green moss covering the soil surface, enhancing the overall aesthetic balance.
Phillyrea latifolia is known for its exceptional resistance to heat, wind, and drought, making it an ideal species for both collectors and enthusiasts seeking a robust yet refined Mediterranean bonsai. This specimen is particularly suitable for naturalistic, raft-style, or clump compositions, and represents an excellent foundation for future artistic development.
A distinctive and expressive bonsai with strong character, ideal for collectors of Mediterranean species.
