Original vintage sports poster for the 1972 Summer Olympic Games in Munich – Olympische Spiele München – designed by the painter and printmaker Kitaj (Ronald Brooks Kitaj; 1932–2007) depicting a swimmer against a shaded blue and green background. This is one of a series of posters by several popular artists of the time (Peter Phillips, Horst Antes, Otl Aicher, David Hockney, among others) commissioned to design the posters for the 1972 Olympic Games in Germany for their advertising campaign, which aimed to "represent the intertwining of sport and art worldwide." The 1972 Summer Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XX Olympiad, were an international multi-sport event held in Munich, West Germany, from August 26 to September 11, 1972.
