Description from the seller

The sculpture, made in plaster according to ancient Italian craftsmanship, rests on a green marble base.

The subject represents the head of Laocoön.

It is recorded in Virgil's Aeneid that, when the Athenians let into the city the famous Trojan Horse, Laocoön hurled a spear at it, making its belly ring and exclaiming: «Timeo Danaos et dona ferentes»
