Description from the seller

Emmanuel Bellini (1904-1989) - Carriole

Emmanuel Bellini, a French painter, draftsman, lithographer, and architect, grew up along the Côte d’Azur during the Belle Époque, which greatly influenced his subjects. Bellini first studied at the École Supérieure d’Arts Plastiques in Monaco and then architecture in Nice. He is considered a figurative painter with influences from Impressionism and Fauvism. His works include city and street scenes, landscapes, circus representations, and floral motifs.

The painting 'Carriole' is offered with a frame (image dimensions: 46 cm H x 33 cm W; frame dimensions: 64 cm H x 50.5 cm W x 5 cm D). The motif of the cart is a typical Bellini subject. The work is signed by E. Bellini in the lower right and on the back of the canvas. The title and the reference CHRM are also found there. In a certificate signed by the artist's daughter from 2010, the work is confirmed as an original and dated to 1966. The painting comes from the estate of a close friend of the family, who bequeathed it to us in 2025.

Exhibitions: First exhibitions from 1949 in Cannes. Numerous solo exhibitions at the Galerie Paul Pétridès in Paris (1951–1976) and other galleries in Monte-Carlo, Cannes, Nice, London, Manchester, Rome. Retrospectives among others at the Sporting d’Hiver in Monte-Carlo (1972 and 1984). After his death, Bellini was honored with his own Chapelle Bellini-Musée in Cannes, where his former studio is now accessible as a museum.

Literature: Emmanuel Bellini: I. The Man – II. The Work, with a foreword by Paul Vialar (Ateliers du Bois des Dons, 1979). Mentions in anthologies on 20th-century French painting, e.g., in Gérald Schurr's Le guidargus de la peinture (Les Éditions de l’Amateur, 1996).

Awards: Officer of the Order of Saint Charles and of the Order of Cultural Merit of Monaco. Since 1989, the Emmanuel Bellini Prize has been awarded at the Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival.
